Mert taught the HVAC apprenticeship program at Chemeketa Community College for over 15 years and was a board member of OR-ACCA (Oregon Air Conditioning Contractors Association).

Additionally, Mert was appointed to be a member of the Oregon Mechanical Officials Association. This group is responsible for writing new codes and reviewing all heating/air conditioning codes and regulations for the State of Oregon.
